Navigating the first 6 months of entrepreneurship

Recruitment, it’s a funny profession, to say the least! High pressured, high targets and at times, overwhelming. I absolutely love it.

The recruitment industry teaches you many things, developing relationships, sector knowledge, self confidence and one of the most important (in my opinion), mental fortitude.

Like a lot of people, growing up I always admired the entrepreneurs we have all heard about and been in awe of, the ones who have built something from the ground up with sheer determination. From the likes of the Dragons Den stars finding the next opportunity and imparting wisdom and, the tycoon searching for the next business partner in The Apprentice, testing every single one of the candidates and watching them develop their business acumen. Of course, there are many others out there. I was inspired that one day I too can start a business, hone my skills and perhaps contribute to others' success.

Well, I did it, I took the plunge, that chance, that gamble and now, I’m thrilled I had the courage to do so. It is safe to say that other individuals who have also taken that leap of faith before me can all agree that starting a business is vastly different than working as an employee.

Some key things I have found as a learning curve;

1. Understanding legal and finance jargon

2. Work-life balance and discipline

3. Not having a team around me and adapting to handling everything independently

4. Investing in workplace systems to enhance productivity

To my fellow and budding entrepreneurs, knowing you are on your own time, work when you want and see your dream become a reality is a brilliant feeling indeed, but be warned, it is equally dangerous If you lack the discipline and the fortitude needed, otherwise, instead of seeing your dream become a reality, it will be the opposite.

As I write this, my company, Sharper Consulting Services has hit the sixth month mark, and what a journey it has been so far, with many candidates registering, candidates being placed in contract and of course, both happy clients and candidates. To those who have put their faith in me, I extend my heartfelt gratitude for your support on this remarkable journey.

I’m excited to see how my dream develops in 2024 and on onwards!
